Inspire Me Wednesdays Week 28

*
This week's post is directed especially to all the stone lovers out there. You may think that you're alone - but fear not, because we're not the first wave of people who love rocks!

Stones have been collected all throughout history for their beauty, colour, and for the spiritual link that people feel with them. Some people believe that stones are a well from which we can draw knowledge of nature. Heated stones are used to heal. Everyone has a different connection with stones - some people have the urge to skip stones, others like to build castles on the beach, but I find contentment in just holding a perfect stone in my hand.

In Japan, there is an art form that is simply selecting and presenting stones just as they are in nature, developed over 2000 years ago. It is called Suiseki (pronounced suu-ee-seck-ee), and it's basis lies in appreciating the unaltered beauty of stone. They are meant to represent the natural world on a small scale. The stones that are used usually echo other elements in nature, such as waterfalls, mountains, islands and animals, but sometimes they are picked for their abstract beauty.

The stones can be displayed in a variety of ways. Below, the Daiza is a wood base that is carved to conform to the shape of the stone. Isn't it beautiful?

*The Suiban or Doban are a wooden rectangular or oval dish filled with sand or water that holds the stone. I just love the fact that it is the natural beauty of the stone that is being displayed for all too see.

Look below from some pictures from the Ralph Connor House sale last weekend. It was wonderful to see all those who came by and thanks again for the support and all the positive energy!
On my way to set up for the Signatures Sale this weekend. See you there!
