BLAST this Christmas music! It's joyful AND triumphant! -the Grinch

I know that the holiday season can be a big source of stress and trepidation for a lot of people. So much to do and too little time. This makes me sad. I hope you can savour some of the magic leading up to the holidays.
*
In that spirit, I am taking this opportunity to review some of my favorite wintertime things!
*

Christmas music

I'm one of those people who love to listen to Christmas music, and there's such a small window in which we can listen to it (a hotly debated window!) My favorites in this category are: Bruce Cockburn, Christmas, and Luciano Pavarotti's "O Holy Night"
(and of course, Vinyl Cafe's annual Dave and Morley Christmas story!)
*

Holiday togetherness

I love all of the "christmas coffees" that bring all  my friends and neighbours together at this time of year.  Getting extra visits and treats is always good!
*

Charlie Brown Christmas/It's A Wonderful Life

I LOVE THESE MOVIES! I don't buy them, because I love the anticipation of waiting for them on television - just like the old days!
*

Giving and receiving cards

I like getting mail. This time of year produces an influx of non-bill mail, and it always brings a smile! (we make a string of Christmas cards across the living room - still waiting for the first one!)
*

Holiday lights

People who put up amazing displays of lights always inspire me because they spend so much time creating something beautiful and/or fun for others to enjoy.
*

Mandarin oranges

You can get them all nowadays, but they just aren't as good and sweet as they are right now!
*

Please let me know what you love about this season! Your comment will enter you into the "paper" contest that is still on!

“Maybe Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”

  1. Missed the craft sale Karen. I really wanted to go but an opportunity came for me to go to Grand Forks with my sister, couldn't miss the shopping fun.

  2. My favourite part of this season is the music-- I especially love all the choral concerts around the city and in the churches at this time of year. Schools do some wonderful things too! Kudos to Westgate Collegiate for their inspiring concert tonight.
